Nino Negri: The historic soul of Valtellina wines

Established in 1897 in Chiuro, the Nino Negri winery is a cornerstone of alpine winemaking in Valtellina. Its heart lies in a 15th-century palace once owned by Stefano Quadrio, the region’s governor under the Duke of Milan. Deep beneath the castle, centuries-old cellars host wines that capture the essence of the mountain.

Valtellina is a land of contrasts—sun-drenched, yet alpine-cool—where the Chiavennasca, the local clone of Nebbiolo, thrives on steep terraced slopes. The winery’s vineyards stretch across the prestigious crus of Sassella, Grumello, Inferno, Maroggia and Valgella, each one imprinting a unique character in the wines.

After its acquisition by the Italian Wine Group in the 1970s, Nino Negri has continued to evolve under visionary winemakers like Casimiro Maule and today, Danilo Drocco. Tradition, precision viticulture and a deep respect for the land drive the estate’s success.

Today, Nino Negri wines stand among the most awarded expressions of Valtellina Nebbiolo, offering age-worthy red wines that combine finesse, minerality, and a deep sense of place.
